About
Seth Ricks
Freelance web & app developer
West Jordan, Utah — working with clients nationwide
I'm Seth Ricks. I build websites and software by hand, for people who want something better than a template and don't want to wait three months to get it.
What I actually do
I'm a freelance developer. That means I do the whole job — the design, the code, the hosting, the payment setup, and the part six months later where something needs changing. There's no account manager in the middle and no handoff to a team you never met. You talk to the person building the thing.
Most of my work falls into three buckets: marketing sites for businesses that need to look credible and load fast, custom software — client portals, booking systems, internal tools, things that don't come in a box — and ongoing care, because a site that nobody maintains quietly stops working.
I hand-write the code rather than assembling it from page builders. That's not purism; it's why the sites are quick, why they hold up on a phone, and why I can change anything you ask for instead of explaining which parts the theme won't allow.
Where I work from
I'm based in West Jordan, Utah, just south of Salt Lake City. Being local matters if you want to meet — plenty of my clients are in the Salt Lake Valley and along the Wasatch Front, and there's more on that on my Utah web design page. It matters much less otherwise: the work happens over email, calls, and a preview link you can open from anywhere. I work with clients across the United States and always have.
Music, and how I ended up here
A good share of my work is for musicians, private teachers, and studios — including families in the Suzuki Method community, and the Intermountain Suzuki String Institute. Music studios turn out to be a near-perfect small-business problem: real students to serve, real tuition to collect, and almost never a budget for a development shop. Building for them is what pushed me to make the whole pipeline — site, payments, contracts, client portal — something one person can genuinely run well.
That's also why this site has things most freelancer portfolios don't: a client portal, its own billing, and a document-signing system I built rather than rented. I use my own tools daily. If they weren't good, I'd be the first one annoyed by them.
How to think about hiring me
I'm a good fit if you want one person accountable for the result, you value speed, and you'd rather have something distinctive than something safe. I'm a poor fit if you need a large team, enterprise procurement, or a platform I don't work in.
Pricing is public — every plan and price is listed on the plans page. No discovery call required to find out what things cost.
