A web designer in Utah who writes the code.
I'm Seth Ricks, a freelance web designer and developer in West Jordan. I build custom sites by hand for businesses across Utah — and I'm the one you talk to, start to finish.
What "custom" actually means here
Most Utah web design quotes land on the same thing underneath: a purchased theme, lightly recolored. It works until you need something the theme didn't anticipate — and then the answer is either "that's not possible" or a bill for a plugin that half-does it.
I write the markup, the styles, and the application code. That has three practical consequences: the pages load fast because nothing ships that isn't used, the layout holds up on a phone because it was designed that way rather than squeezed into a breakpoint, and when you ask for a change, you get the change.
Who I build for in Utah
Mostly owner-operated businesses — the ones where the person deciding on the website is also the person doing the work. Trades and home services, studios and instructors, professional practices, small retailers, and local nonprofits.
A good share of my work is for music teachers and studios, including families in the Suzuki community and the Intermountain Suzuki String Institute. If that's you, there's a page built specifically for it: websites for musicians, at a lower flat rate.
What a project usually includes
- A custom design — not a template, and not a page-builder
- Copy shaped with you, so the site says the thing you'd say in person
- Mobile-first layout, because that's where most of your traffic already is
- Contact forms, booking, or online payments where the business needs them
- The technical groundwork search engines need — clean markup, fast pages, real structure
- Hosting, updates, and monitoring afterwards, so it doesn't quietly rot
Local, but not limited to local
Being in the Salt Lake Valley genuinely helps if you want to sit down together — plenty of my clients are within a short drive, and meeting in person makes the first conversation faster. But the work itself runs on email, calls, and a private preview link you can open from anywhere, so I take on clients across the country too.

What it costs
Website build prices and typical ranges for custom platforms are on the homepage, and every care plan is on the plans page — you don't need a discovery call to find out the range. Builds start at $200 for a one-page music site and scale with the work; care plans run from $25 a month for a music site up to $450+ a month for custom platforms, depending on what's being maintained and how much change you want included.
Bigger jobs — a store, a booking system, a full application — get a flat quote before anything starts. Small extras beyond your care plan are billed at a published hourly rate, and anything over two hours gets an estimate first — no surprise invoices.
How it goes
You tell me what you're trying to do. I come back with a flat quote, usually inside a day. If it's a fit, I build it and you watch it happen on a private preview link, leaving comments directly on the page. Most sites go live in three to ten days.
After launch you get a client portal — your project status, your billing, your support requests, and a direct line to me. Not a ticket queue.
Tell me about your project
What you're building, roughly when you need it, and anything you already dislike about your current site. I'll come back with a flat quote and a straight answer.
